how to render in ortographic view with shadows, sky, materials etc./aca12

hi all,

i ve noticed that when i switch to orthographic view i cannot render the view. i have only black render output. how to make a render in say top view or front?

There is a weird thing going on when you try to render a straight view or iso.  It seems to want perspective.

Zooming in too close can cause black.  Never seen a good explanation but think of it that you are too close and your end of the camera is past the subject.

By front do you mean straight on - no perspective?

By Top you mean the same? 

 

When you go to the top ACA swaps the display to a plan view which has no 3D.  Good for export to engineer!  There is a trick to messing with display reps to assign a model view of objects to a new plan view (don't mess with existing). I do this to do a quick shadow render (for planning subission). This allows you to render a plan view without perspective and give you 3d items to render. But plans look good with some perspective anyway.
