Multileader (mleader) issue

I have ACA 2009 but this problem may be consistent for vanilla AutoCAD 2009.

When I insert a multileader, I set the arrow point first and then the landing. After that it goes into a "mtext" environment and I start typing my text. The problem is that as soon as I hit the space bar after the first word, it exits the mtext, then I have to go back into the mleader and edit the text to type the rest of my notes. This didn't happen in 08.

Is this a glitch in the upgrade or is there some obscure switch I need to flip?

I have the same problem and it drives me crazy.  I've looked through the system variables but didn't find anything that would effect the symtom.
