Error running detail components on 2015

Anyone seen this error and know how to fix?

I am on AutoCAD Architecture 2015, this is the first time I have tried to do a detail since installing 2015. Any tool on palette or in content broswer gives this error (see attached image).

The MDB file is in the location it specifies.

I am doing a reinstall now to see if that clears it up, but since this is a new install, I am not optimistic that will solve the problem.

Thanks.

I am not seeing that in ACA 2015, but ran into that (or something similar) many releases ago (2011 maybe?).  I believe that the issue may have arrisen in a beta version, and I was not able to resolve it then, but after uninstalling the beta and then installing the shipping version, the databases were recognized.  I have seen other posts similar to this (for older releases), and some found updating .Net helped (again, older versions that what you would have now).

Are you using an out-of-the-box 2015 ACA template?  Is there any way detail components from a previous release could have gotten into your file?  (Did you migrate anything from a previous release when opening for the first time?)  There was a report where someone had a similar problem when working on a file from a previous release; using the database from the release in which the file was created helped in that situation.

Hi David:

Thanks for the reply. I did not have the beta on this machine. I do have 2014 and previously had 2013. 2013 is uninstalled, but 2014 is still there. I did not migrate anything. It is a straight out-of-the-box install. Default options, default template. My tool palettes went wonky too. I had to drag them back in from Content Browser to restore. So who knows, maybe that is related. The reinstall and repair did not work.

I just fired up 2014 to see if it worked. Turns out that it fails there too. So maybe your .net suggestion then. Any idea how I go about fixing that?

Thanks.

The following is from another post and for a different version of Cad than you are using, but the issues is the same and solution simulair.
I have had and still have this problem on my machine from time to time. I run several different versions of Revit and Cad and it seems due to AutoDesk reliance on MS Visual C++  we are constantly having issues because of this.
I am always hesitant now to upgrade or update because when ever we do, one or the other of some program will start having troubles that we may not notice right away.
Other non autodesk programs also use MS Visual C++ of one flavor or another.
Not being a computer programmer like my Dad, I do not know how or why there is always an issue or why AutoDesk finds the need to use MS Visual C++ and cant keep the operation of thier applications closer to the chest without having to rely on 3rd party applications.
I generally go to AutoDesk and they will tell us to uninstall as noted below.
Good Luck

Re: Detail Component Manager will not open in ACA 2011

Autodesk software relies on Microsoft components/language in order to make features/tools run properly.  It sounds like your problem is an issue with .NET Framework.  I agree with "CADMAN305" and have seen this many times.  I would recommend that you remove all versions of .NET Framework from the machine and reinstall using the information listed out below.

1.       If you are having problems with .NET Framework I commonly advise the removal of ALL .NET Framework versions (including service packs and hotfixes) and then a reinstall of only the version which is relevant for the version of AutoCAD in question (from the AutoCAD disk if possible).  If other programs have a dependency on a newer version I recommend the customer run Windows Update, but only after the AutoCAD issue has been diagnosed and resolved.

2.       If there are difficulties with the uninstall or reinstall of .NET Framework, try it in Diagnostic Mode (see TS75218).  I have had much greater success when working with these installs in diag mode.

3.       For 2009 products make sure the “Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable” is installed (found in ..\Support\VCRedist on the disk).  This is required for newer .NET Framework components to function correctly.

4.       Note that there are different versions of .NET Framework and the C++ Redistributable for 32 and 64 bit operating systems.  Make sure the correct version is being installed for your operating system.

5.       All .NET enabled executables have a “.exe.config” (i.e. acad.exe.config or dwgviewr.exe.config) file located in the same folder as the exe which can be configured in Notepad if multiple versions of .NET Framework are installed.  This can be a handy (and easy) suggestion.  See TS1062546 for details on modifying this file.

6.       There is a third-party (non-Microsoft) utility which performs an uninstall of all .NET Framework versions and cleans up left over files and folders.  This utility is useful if manual uninstalls are not working to resolve the problem.  I use this only as a last resort, and I preface it by saying that this is not an Autodesk or Microsoft utility so use at your own risk (it has not caused me any troubles though).  This is a not a miracle cure but it is another useful weapon in our artillery.

•         More information about this utility and manual uninstall steps (READ THIS FIRST):  http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip

•         .NET Framework Cleanup Utility:   http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/05/30/611355.aspx

7.       I have encountered a few scenarios where none of these suggestions are successful in fixing .NET Framework.  These are often related to older systems or machines where Windows is not behaving correctly.  If none of the strategies above are successful it may be necessary for the customer to contact someone at Microsoft (or their system support professional) for additional Windows troubleshooting.

For reference, here are some common symptoms of .NET Framework issues. This list is not all-inclusive.

•         Layer manager, tool palette, quick calculator, Style manager, Project navigator and ribbon issues.  These components depend heavily on .NET Framework

•         JIT (Just-in-Time) Debugger errors

•          “AutoCAD was not installed properly.  Please reinstall immediately” or “The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect…” errors on startup

•         1935/HRESULT 0x80070002  errors during AutoCAD install or deployment

•         Some (but not all) variations of the infamous FATAL ERROR: Unhandled e0434f4dh Exception at 7c81eb33h/7c812A5bh

•         “NGEN failed to exit” errors during installation

•         Vault installation errors

•         Exception errors in acmgd.arx or acmgd.dll during startup

•         “Class Not Registered” errors

•         “Cannot load assembly. Error details: System.Security.SecurityException” errors at the AutoCAD command line

•         “Autodesk ACT libraries were not properly registered” starting 3DS Max or Viz

•         “Error 25015. Failed to install assembly…” during installation (primarily Inventor)

The following list describes the version of .NET Framework required for AutoCAD and LT.  AutoCAD 2005 and earlier releases did not rely on .NET Framework.

•        AutoCAD 2006 requires .NET Framework 1.1 SP1

•        AutoCAD 2007 requires .NET Framework 2.0

•        AutoCAD 2008 requires .NET Framework 2.0

•        AutoCAD 2009 requires .NET Framework 3.0 SP1

•        AutoCAD 2010 requires .NET Framework 3.5

•        AutoCAD 2011 requires .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

After installing the .net applications, attempt to repair your installation of AutoCAD Architecture, this should ensure that all the components of .NET are registered properly with the application.  Then attempt to run ACA and see if the problem remains.

Hello Paul:

Thank you for the very detailed reply. Looks very intimidating... 🙂

My concern is that with so many Autodesk versions and lots of other software, that if I unistall as instructed below, I will break other stuff. It is a tough situation. At any rate, I am afraid that I won't have time to run through all this right away. I am going to try to reserve a slot of time in the next few days to dig into it.

Thanks again for the very detailed response.

I know what you mean, it is rather intimidating and also annoying.

I like the list - refer to item 7, where the author list a non-inclusive list of AutoDesk applications that are getting broken by the reliance on the C++ routine.

You would think that by now they would have stopped this reliance on a constantly changing code by a 3rd party.

I wish we could back charge autodesk for our downtime against out subscription cost when we have to figure out this sestemic problem over and over.

A simple windows security update can cause issues when it has a new verion of that c++ program.

Here is part of an email stream that may help you but illustrates my points. Good luck with your efforts. You may want to contact autodesk first fan find out if there is a list of C++ recomended for your 2015 and other versions of AutoDesk products that they recomend prior to going through the exercise.

Subject: RE: Regarding [CaseNo:xxxxxxxxx] Install failure of Autodesk_BDS_Premium_2012_English_Win_64bit

Dear Paul Richards,

Thank you for choosing Autodesk Support.I'm Emily from Autodesk Installation and Licensing support team and I will be working on your case.

I know you got error when installing BDS. I looked through all your log files and found the installatin failed with Autodesk Content Service and VC++ 2010 Redistributable (x86), this is because you have a bad content service installed or a higher version VC++ on your machine. Here are some suggestions for your issue:

1  Please go to Control Panel, find Autodesk Content Service and uninstall it first.

2  Check installed VC++ 2010 version in the Control Panel, the default version should be  10.0.30319, If you have higher version installed, please uninstall it and then try to install Autodesk products.

Here is a solution on this issue, for your reference.

Please let me know if you still need any help with this case.

Best regards,

Subject: [CaseNo:08948788.] AutoDesk AutoCadd Install failure, Looks like Microsoft Visual C++ Issue

Dear Paul Richards,

Thank you for choosing Autodesk Support. Here is the recommended resolution to your case:

First of all, please make sure the following during installation 1. You have admin rights.

2. Anti virus is temporary turn off or disable.

If it fails,

Please try to remove all the Visual C++ Redist and .net framework from Control Panel > Program Feature

Incase above suggestion is not working, will you be using the Autodesk Cloud sync at the moment ? you may try to disable this installation option in the installation wizard to check if the installation will go through.

Thank you

Best regards,

Alvin Wong

Paul,

You said you uninstalled ACA 2013.  Did you migrate to ACA 2014 from ACA 2013?  If so, it might be trying to access the database that you uninstalled.  I would try reinstalling ACA 2014(not repair installing it) without migrating.  Using a new drawing, test the detailer.  If  you are working on a drawing created with an earlier version, it may be referencing you to a database copy that doesn't still exist.

Hi Paul,

From the Screenshot, it indicates something is wrong in regedit key  {E8540E22-D20E-483F-9FD5-A5A3553A7556}

or C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AecJetDbServer57.tlb

It may be caused by uninstallation of ACA 2013.

You can compare attached regedit zip(64bits) file with your current one, and check whether AecJetDbServer57.tlb is in the right location.

Possible Solutions:

1. Compare or import attached regedit file, or put AecJetDbServer57.tlb to the place pointed in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{E8540E22-D20E-483F-9FD5-A5A3553A7556}\1.0\HELPDIR

2. If above method cannot work, please Uninstall ACA 2015 and Reinstall ACA 2015, which will refresh the regedit key and reinstall some files.

Please let me know if you have question.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Pengfei Tian

Hi Paul,

I'm sorry to hear you've encountered this issue. We see cases on this periodically, and have compiled a list of solutions that have worked for other customers. (The error message you posted looks slightly different, but I haven't seen it come up in 2015 yet.) Most often, a clean uninstall/reinstall of the program is what fixes it in the end, but the other suggestions can be less time-consuming, and are certainly worth a shot.

Here is the article: Error: "Cannot open database" in AutoCAD Architecture or AutoCAD MEP Detail Component Manager

Additionally, one customer reported that opening the database in MS Access 2010 resolved the error for him (although I wasn't able to test this on my end).

I'd like to know if Pengfei's registry edit works for you, so that I can update the public solution to include it if it does.

Please let us know if you have any questions, and we'll try our best to help you get things up and running again.

Thank you to everyone who made suggestions. But I give up. I just completely uninstalled and reinstalled and still the same error.

I am really not sure what else to do besides completely wiping my machine, which is not likely to happen anytime soon.

However, I really cannot justify any more time on this. So, that's it. I give up.

OK, so I know it is something on this computer, and if I had to guess, I would say it is related to all of the other versions of Autodesk software that are currently installed and have previously been installed. This machine is about 2 years old and has at one time or another had 2012, 2013, 2014 and now 2015. I have had AutoCAD, AutoCAD Arch, AutoCAD MEP, Revit and I think even Inventor at one point. Currently, I have AutoCAD Arch 2014 and 2015 and Revit 2013, 2014 and 2015. Currently no MEP or Inventor.

I had trouble uninstalling AutoCAD MEP over a year ago, and come to think of it, I have not used detail components in probably as long, so for all I know, this problem has been with me for a long time.

Anyhow, I just installed 2015 on a virtual machine and it works fine. So, for my current need, I will use the virtual machine for details.

Thanks again for everyone's suggestions.

Guess I really need to carve out a time to flatten my machine and reinstall clean.

Hi

you should not have to wipe it clean. It is more about having one thing
loaded before another, and not the other way around.

Of course Autodesk cannot provide any clear guidance to this effect, only
more general guidance and hope you keep your fingers crossed for good luck

Edit to include who I'm posting to...

VStudley:

One: your link doesn't seem to work...
Two: Autodesk programmers need to develop better practices to keep this from happening over and over again... NEVER hard-code to a specific version of any shared components that may be updated... had the required version of the .net framework been placed in a version dependant folder within "Autodesk Shared" then one version would NEVER step on another.
If updating a database by opening it in the actual 3rd party database editor solves such issues, then, again, you have the same issue: you are hard-coding to a specific version and relying it to be the same as the version that you had at the time that you encoded it... ALL such references should be included in the install and placed in a version dependant location that you control and can be used for that version...

I've found I get that same error when trying to add a detail component from a previously installed version of Autocad.  If I open a drawing that was drawn in 2012 in 2014 and try and add detail component, not from the detail component manager but from a component already in the drawing that error pops up.

I have had this issue many times... and am currently helping someone with this issue right now.  Here are my troubleshooting checks:

Overwrite databases.

  • Delete and replace with working copies of the same release year. (see attached below)
  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ACA 2014\enu\Details\Details (US)\

If that doesn't work then:

  • Switch to OOTB profile to check to make sure profile isn't corrupt

If that doesn't work then:

If that doesn't work then:

  • Clean uninstall of all release years of that particular Autodesk Software
  • If you have pending system updates, install them and reboot.Completely disable all virus protection; add on firewall software; internet virus protection add on; through Microsoft Services (ensure that they are set to run manually so that if you have to reboot, they won't get re-enabled before you want them enabled.
  • Reboot
  • If you’re running Windows, empty your TEMP folder before installing. If you have problems installing and need to contact Autodesk Product Support, a support technician may need to review the installation logs in your TEMP folder.

To open your TEMP folder, type %TEMP% in the address bar of Windows Explorer and press Enter.

  • Uninstall and reinstall .NET Framework. reboot in between  (Start with the newest versions first.)

Many Autodesk products require the Microsoft .NET Framework to be installed:

          Microsoft .NET 3.5 – for Windows 8
          Microsoft .NET 4.0 – for Windows 7/Vista

The following is my understanding of the .net required for each release year.

The following list describes the version of .NET Framework required for AutoCAD and LT.

AutoCAD 2005 and earlier releases did not rely on .NET Framework.

      - AutoCAD 2006 requires .NET Framework 1.1 SP1
      - AutoCAD 2007 requires .NET Framework 2.0
      - AutoCAD 2008 requires .NET Framework 2.0
      - AutoCAD 2009 requires .NET Framework 3.0 SP1
      - AutoCAD 2010 requires .NET Framework 3.5
      - AutoCAD 2011 requires .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
      - AutoCAD 2012 requires .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
      - AutoCAD 2013 requires .NET Framework 4.0
      - AutoCAD 2014 requires .NET Framework 4.0
      - AutoCAD 2015 requires .NET Framework 4.5
      - AutoCAD 2016 requires .NET Framework 4.5

  • Install of Autodesk software in the order of release year with no migration (I always choose the Reboot option if in the middle of install it asks to close down application and try to restart later)
  • Reboot
  • Test the software

Unrelated / yet perhaps related:

I find that it's the virus protection these days... deployed ACA 2015 in two locations recently; created cutomized palettes for both locations and published them to a network drive.  At both locations palettes were getting inadvertantly deleted.  We found that when we COMPLETELY disabled virus protections (in these cases it was a Symantec product and McAfee product), the palettes stopped disappearing.
