Error plotting from Sheet Set Manager

We are not able to print from the Sheet Set manager it errors out. We updated drivers and tried connecting to the printer directly by the IP and through the server. We also tried re-created the template and it still errors out.

Hi Gilbert,
Can you provide some additional information about the error which you are receiving?
What happens when you publish the sheetset to a local output device such as the DWG to PDF.PC3? Let us know the results.

Cheers,

Volker

So you know, this is how the sheet set manager was configured...

1. A large plotter is installed on our data server and the printer driver is shared on multiple computers.

2. CAD systems are configured using shared pc3's that was created from the shared printer driver.

3. A Master Pagesetup.dwt file is shared in our network.

4. The Master Pagesetup.dwt contains multiple pagesetup layouts using the shared PC3's.

5. Our drawing files are on our data server, as well as the dst file.

6. Plots are created using: SSM>Publish>Publish using pagesetup override>(the page layout being used to print is selected here)

7. 3 of 10 computers are able to print using this configuration without a problem.

8. 6 of the 10 are able to send the prints to the printer, however it asks to load a different paper size from what is intended. Able to print when opening individual file and plotting without using the SSM.

9. 1 of the 10 shows the following error, not finding the device even though the plotter has been installed on the computer. Able to print when opening individual file and plotting without using the SSM.

Christian from our office will continue this discussion with you if you can please keep him in the loop. He will update me on any further development. Mike from EMD is our IT and has access to the subscription center... he will need to be kept in the loop with regards computer setup, network, and printer drivers.

Publishing to PDF works on all computers.  The issue remains when sent to the printer.

I have some additional information in hopes that more details about the entire environment will help yield a solution.

- A couple months ago everybody in the office was able to print plan sets using our project specific sheet sets and our defined page overrides without any issues. Then we started having issues with the server that hosted our files. We were told by our tech support company that we needed to switch out the old server for a new one.

- Eventually all our data was migrated from the old server to the new replacement and everything appeared to be up an running again.

- We started noticing that certain people were unable to print using the same sheet set we had been using previously without issues.

- Gilbert was able to print and I was not. Whenever I tried sending a print I would get an error at the printer panel reporting that it was trying to print on some odd size paper like 17" x 12", regardless of the size of print I tried sending. Sometimes AutoCAD would report a "Device not Found" error when I sent a print. Although printing directly to the printer using the general print dialog box within AutoCAD works fine, issues only appeared when trying to send single or multi-page prints using the sheet set manager and the page overrides.

- Since Gilbert was able to print fine using the sheet set from his computer and I was not, we started diagnosing by confirming all our print settings and reinstalling drivers for our Lanier LW5100 wide-format printer on my computer. We also looked at the Drawing Template file located on the server that contains all the page layouts used as the source for page overrides for the sheet sets. (Everyone uses the page layouts defined in this template file as the source for the sheet set page overrides.) Gilbert deleted then recreated a few page setups within the template file and saved it while working at my computer. We tested it using a sheet set and it worked and actually printed. We tried it again this time from Gilbert's computer and found that he was unable to print using the same sheet set and overrides from his computer. From his computer, he opened the same source template file again, deleted and redefined some page setups and was once again able to print from the sheet set. At least between our computers, it seems that the sheet set only works for the last user/machine to edit and save the template.

- This initially led me to believe that maybe it was a file security issue that had developed because each save of the file on a machine would change the 'owner' designation in the template file's security properties and that 'owner', or the last person to redefine the sheets and save it, would be able to print. However this was disproved when we found out that other people in the office were still able to print using the sheet sets and overrides while I could not. These users never edited or saved the template file.

I have been unable to come up with an explanation that fits the inconsistent errors of each workstation.

The same conditions exist that Gilbert listed in his post:

- 3 of 10 computers are able to print using this configuration without a problem.

- 6 of the 10 are able to send the prints to the printer, however it asks to load a different paper size from what is intended. Able to print when opening individual file and plotting without using the SSM.

- 1 of the 10 shows a "Device not found" error, not finding the device even though the plotter has been installed on the computer. Able to print when opening individual file and plotting without using the SSM.

Any update on solutions, tips or suggestions about this issue would be greatly appreciated as we are still dealing with this on a daily basis and it continues to cause frustration when we need to print sets containing a very high number of sheets.

If you require any further information or the template file from us for review, please let us know.

Thank you,

Christian

I am also experiencing the same problem with printing from sheetsets with page setup overides from a template file.

In our case, we are printing to the adobe windows print driver from different versions of atuocad (mix of 2013 and 2014, english and french) while the same version of adobe printer and windows OS.

The error would either state that the configured page size (Arch E) was not found or the plot would come out as a page format "Slide 7.5x10".

I would appreciate a heads up if anyone finds a solution.

Thank you.

Luc Doucet.

Changing from the windows printer "Adobe PDF" to the "DWG to PDF.pc3" works now across some of the problem computers.

Will have to test later for computers that are not currently logged on.
