Display vs cleanup problem?

ACA 2011

As my projects become smaller, a new problem has emerged that I never used to experience w/ larger projects...

Doing a small single story remodel. On one sheet I'll have a partial floor plan, partial framing plan & partial electrical plan. Each of those was a View.  Each of those Views uses the same floor plan construct. Therefore, 3 floor plan views are stacked on top of each other in Model Space of the Sheet and I get wall clean-up errors in every viewport. In larger projects the only time I'd have a similar situation would be an upper and a lower floor plan on the same sheet....no problem becuase the floor plans are at different Z heights and have different Displays associated with them. But now I've got these 3 floor plans not cleaning up. My work-around is to go to Model Space of the sheet, and move each view out of the way of the other so they're no longer stacked, and then just stretch the viewport wherever to see each view. Tell me there's another way....

Scott.

You could disallow cleanup across external references.  That will not work if you break your model up into multiple Constructs per floor and want those to cleanup with each other, however.

Placing the walls on different Clean Up groups will work as well.

Interesting. How do I have two of the same walls from the same construct clean up differently? Remember, we're talking about the same construct being used in two different views, brought into the same sheet separately.  Once they're each brought into the sheet they're both at the same location...

Just yet another reason why I abandoned the Project Navigator for residential or even small commercial projects. (I had this happen on a Hall addition to a church project and had the site & floor plan on the same sheet.  Was a real mess when exporting for the architect when he requested autocad files. (how to explain I can't give him the sheets setup).  The PN is great for organising lots of files but for my residential work I now use my Multilevel in 1 file approach and it removes quite a lot of problems of the PN that just aren't necessary for small jobs..

I might doubt you want to change if these are only periodical but for anyone doing residential work who would like to see what I (and others) have done I attach a playlist on my youtube channel.

This really should be an option OOTB!
