Detail Component Manager

Is it difficult to create new components? How does one do this? (I seem to
be having a difficult time finding information.) I'd really like a vinyl
siding component.

First you have to have a drawing with a library of shape blocks.
Second, launch the DCM and push the edit button.
Add your items under division 07 46 33 and edit the parameters tab.
Save the database and voila.

Thanks Doug - what about if I want a detail similar to the fiberglass batt
pattern, where it kind of repeats? I don't see a fiberglass batt drawing -
just an .xml file.

Something called a "recipe file". How do these work?!

Just checked the Help Index - there's nothing at all in there about Recipe
files! How the hell does Autocad expect people to understand the functions
of this software when they don't even document their product?! (Can you
tell I only had one cup of coffee today?!)

You may want to check out the AU Online classes releated to ACA Details.

I had taken a previous version of Dennis McNeal's class, and I do not believe it got into recipes, but it may be worth having a look at his materials anyway:
http://au.autodesk.com/?nd=class&session_id=768

I have not taken Mikako Harada's class or read through the materials, but the course description mentions that it covers the writing of recipes.

If you want a repeat pattern like for brick or siding, then you specify the
block, use the linear array, and specify the width.
I am not sure about recipies but for siding sections, it should be
relatively simple. For multiple views, you would need to add features for
each view direction.

I don't think they expect the average user to be customizing by adding
recipies. From looking at the xml file though, it appears that it allows
the user to launch a program (a recipie) that does the job and manages the
object. This probably involves creating custom objects which is beyond the
capacity of most users. The application name for batt insulation is aecdtl
and the function is AecDtlRcpBattInsulation. It defines densities and layer
keys.

I've never created one from scratch,
but I have gotten in there and, by process of reverse-engineering;
added lines of code to hard-code color assignments into the Detail
Component's various nested elements.
