Cutting a sloped concrete beam with "Opening -> By Face"

So I am using "Opening -> By Face" to create a cut in a concrete beam because for some reason Revit will not simply let you cut one.  The problem I have now is that the end of the beams now show up Red and not the concrete hatch pattern.  Has aneyone run into this problem?
