Custom Beam Shape

I'm attempting to create a custom beam shape, specifically a stiffened Cee.  I've tried the using the -MEMBERSHAPEDEFINE, but unsuccessful once creating the strucutral member style.  The final result comes out rectangular.

Could any point me the correct direction for this?

Thanks.

Mike

Once you've created the shape, what steps are you taking to apply the shape to the style?

Can you post the structural member.

Thanks for your response...and my apologies for the delayed response.

Once I create the shape, I attempt to insert it by

>home panel

>build tab

>insert beam

>chage style in properties to 10inch cee stiff

However, the beam does not display the profile.

Any ideas?

The file is too big to post, so I've posted it here:

I tried downloading the file 10 times from that ridiculous web site, but no luck. Can't you just wblock the beam out to a file and post that?

My apologies.  I haven't used this site for a while, but Badongo has become a real pain to use.

I'll post it to one other site that should be easier.

You are only finishing half of the process. You are only defining the member shape. You then have to create a new member style and apply the member shape to that style. See "Creating Custom Structural Members" in the F1 Help.

I forgot to include that I did make a new structural member style using the custom shape as start and end shape for the new element...then tried importing, and only came up with a rectangle...not the custom shape.

Thanks.

In structural member shape definitions there are 3 levels of detail, low, medium and high. You have defined the shape only for the low level of detail. The medium level of detail (default) uses a square for the shape. When defining the shape, you have to create shapes for all 3 levels. The shape can be the same if you so chose. The low level allows you to select linework, but the medium and high levels of detail need closed polylines.

Hope this helps.

Thanks...that was what I was missing.  Got it to work now 🙂
