Calculating number of a certain block in a 2D plan

Dear sir

   I am electrical engineer and I have little experience with autocad .  How can I calculate the number of  acertain block in a 2D plan , such as the number of electrical socket in abig plan  with autocad 2010

QSELECT or FILTER commands, explore them in HELP: post back if you get stuck.

qselect works as long as those blocks are not within other blocks.

just pointing it out so he knows the limitations of qselect.

 

unsure of filter, as i have not used it much. but my guess would be it would have the same limitation.

 

Bcount will count //some// blocks in your drawing. it's pretty flakey, but built into autocad.  doesnt count dynamic blocks.

 

you might need some sort of block counting lisp routine like one of these:
