ACA 2012 Doors/Windows becoming unanchored

I do not know if this is because of working in Windows XP or not, but several times now, in several projects, after editing an xref'd plan in place in another drawing (ie sections), all the doors and windows I've placed, regardless of style, have become unanchored from the walls. They are still shown in the proper locations, but will revert to standard depths and not cut the walls. Is there a fix to this, beyond working on the xref files separately and never working on them in place? This seems like a lousy way to proceed, causing multiples files open rather than coordinating everything in one place.

This is typically when upgrading AEC objects from previous versions to the latest format.  So a cleanup procedure can be run to minimize the impact of this upgrade and any other possible discrepancies within the file.  I have included a direct link to this process below.

I have attached a snapshot of an area where this has happened to me.  There are two windows adjacent to each other on the same wall.  One window had become unanchored while the other window had stayed anchor.

I was editing my "elevation file" and noticed I had forgotten something on the floor plan, so I edited the "Floor plan XR" in place.  I saved the changes and noticed that only SOME windows had unanchored, and all the interior doors.

I had tried the link that you have provided and to no avail, nothing had changed.  Does anyone else have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

I am aware I can go through and reanchor each individual window and door to the wall, BUT this solution does not place the window back in its original location.  It moves the subject window to the left or to the right.

For the walls with multiple windows and doors that are separated by framing, this problem can be very frustrating as it is happening to other drawings.  Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks!!

Did you find the cause and a solution to this? The purge fix did not help me. I am not editing the XRef in place either but it still is happening. AutoCAD Arch 2012 here also.

"sciaran7" and "tdhauck", Thank you for your replies.  In this case all 11 steps will need to be performed on all files involved (XREFs included and outside of file and then reloaded).  This will then ensure all clean ups needed take place and generate a working/clean file for use.  If the issue still persist, the only other two occurrences I have seen in my years (again outside of corruption/miscommunication) is third party objects and then also migration of files through previously release programs/formats.  If either of these are possible then, even after a file clean up, a re-anchor of the objects is needed.  This is what I have seen anyway and I hope this helps in some fashion.

“mattlawton2764”, after you applied the steps outlined, did the problem still persist?  Please let us know.  Thank you and we look forward to your reply update.

In my years working for Autodesk and my time as a CAD Manager I have never seen a solution to this. There are many theories as to why this happens but none have ultimately been proven.

If the problem persists with select files or files in a particualr folder I would suggest remaking the folder or moving those files to a new location. There is some belief with "persons in the know" that it could be related to bad save locations.

If this continues to happen to anyone I highly recommend if possible to send the files into Autodesk for review. It would help them greatly if you could send the copy of the file before the "unanchoring" took place as well as the corrupted file.
