AC 2012 and Redirected My Documents

Hello,

My company is currently deploying windows 7 across the entire organization, and we have run into a snag related to AutoCAD 2012.  Basically, AutoCAD is painfully slow when the user has a redirected 'documents' folder and is 'working online' .  Below is a summary of our environment...

Domain = 2008R2 (64bit)

Desktop OS = Windows 7 64bit

Autocad = 2012

The client hardware profile is all over the board.  I am testing on an I7 with 16GB RAM and a SSD.

The folder redirection is accomplished with a group policy and offline files is configured for each of the redirected folders.

Here is the rub...  I can log in with a test user, select 'work offline' from windows explorer and AC2012 works just fine.  But, If I attempt to launch AC2012 while working online, it takes 6 minutes to load.

We put a sniffer on the switch and it is very obvious that, when working online, AC2012 looks for a bunch of files in the user's documents folder.  Since we have redirected this, it is traversing the network (redirection target) to do this.  That said, it does not create any files and still loads (eventually) after failing to locate the files.

Anyone solved this one yet?  It seems to me that we should be able to point autocad to location besides 'My Documents'

You might want to post in the CAD Managers DG, or Basic AutoCAD DG to get more responses...

I would suggest creating two profiles for working online and offline. For the online profile, change the file search paths under options to the redirected server location for any paths currently directed to 'C:\Users\*username*\AppData'. Better to reconcile the path yourself, then have AutoCAD try to search through the redirection switch that Windows7 uses.

Then create the appropriate shortcut to load each profile.

Did you ever figure out this problem?

I'm having the same issue and when using Wireshark I was surprised how often it is looking for files that it shouldn't be even looking for and looking in the wrong place, and I noticed that Autocad also looks in additional folders that we have added under the File Search Path.

Thanks

Brent Morris
