Attached are two recently completed cabin concept renderings. Models were created with AutoCAD Architecture 2011 + VisionREZ. Rendering was produced with Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2011.
Hey Jay, very nice images. Was a plugin to max design used or was it 'vanila'? How does the process of importing an ACA model into max design work, can it be linked or do you have to export to acad first?
Yes indeed, those are not likely a fitting defintion for what most consider a "cabin". I guess I could keep one as a vacation home if somebody really twisted my arm
No Max plug ins. Robert use a straight import of the 3D Model from ACA+VREZ using the File Link Manager. See attached image.
Thanks Jay, that's what I thought. We're using an external consultant for renderings and he keeps complaining about the ACA models we send him, that they're 'too heavy'. According to him Max isn't good at importing files from acad,ACA or even revit. He tells me, ironically Archicad files come into max best.
We've never tested an ArchiCAD file so I wouldn't be able to confirm or deny his claim but I can say we have never had any issues with ACA models coming into Max. Could be just a personal preference on their part or could be legitmiate but from our perspective it is not a problem.
If you want to send me one of your files I'll let our graphics group run an import and see if they experience any issues, "heaviness" etc. Could be a setting?
Thanks for the offer Jay. My files are generally too big to email, but I can send them via 'yousendit', the free ftp service. What is your email so I can send you the link?
I was exporting models for www.constructivemedia.com.au and they were using ArchiCAD to build all their model work before exported to MAX for prettying and rendering (or just straight in MAX). The guy doing our work said my models were cleaner and better than the ArchiCAD models he worked with so it may also depend on how things are set up. Before sending, I would usually spend some time stripping out everything not required not text, dims, purging styles and the drawing itself. Also it depends on how you set up your styles, keeping them simple. Obvious one is how many faces you end up with from a wall style. Is it possible to change to a simplified style before sending. From ADT2006 at first he was getting reversed faces in window frames but it seemed fixed in ACA2009.
Jay, stunning as usual. Thanks for posting.
