Adding elevation detail...how do you do it?????

I have spent the last 3 hours trying to figure this out.

How do you add a soldier course above a window in a wall type? Or add an accent panel (in elevation) of a different color brick within a wall type.

I have attached the elevation I am trying to create. I want to create the exterior walls with wall types. I have already made this panel with the curtainwall tool, but it looks horrendous in plan.

Life was much easier when all i had to do was draw lines. Now I need to build the entire building before I can even create a drawing that anyone can use. UGH!!!

    Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mark

I would create a DWA style with the soldier course header as part of the top frame. Then I would create 2 differant wall styles. The first one would reflect the end condition. The second one would reflect the condictions at the windows. I would then draw separate wall portions to make up the wall, inserting the DWA into the appropriate wall section.

OK. Thanks for the advice. I did that, but as you can see in the attached file, I can not get the endcap to appear. It seems to be having trouble reconciling the endcap at the opening vs. the wall style that contains the window.

I do have the correct endcap I want to use, but it only shows up when the same window is used all the way across the floor plan and not when i try to use (2) wall types.

Have any thoughts how i can rectify this?

All that came through in that file were proxy objects. Which version of ACA are you using?

It was 2010. I have reposted it to 2007. Can you get that one to work?

If you're talking about the line in plan, to get around it you could turn on the 'draw miter' option for the component in the display rep for the style. That is under the 'other' tab.

That does work. But I am actually looking for the plan to reflect the endcap condition, where I have the gyp bd returning back to the window jamb. Any idea how to do that? Obviously ACA is having a tough time deciphering between the endcap, the wall type change and the window jamb. But I just cannot figure out how to get it to display correctly.

To add a soldier course I would create a block of the soldier brick with a masselement at the average width I am going to use. (this average is important only if you are doing renderings I think). Then insert this block into your window style (style or object override as necessary). check the standard insert point and position the insert point in your block to suite.  Also check scale to width so it will stretch to suit different window widths.   (I always do centre but the insert point std is left!)

To get the wall to cut out for the soldier, simply add the window to the wall as an interference - subtractive and it will cut out.

An advantage of the DWA that James has suggested is you don't have to add the window to the wall again to 'cut' the extra bit - soldier or sill.  I just wanted to stick to window objects.

I cam across an interesting idea for accent panels in walls that may help.

I called it using 'sleeper components'

If you hang in there virtually building is a lot of fun and more rewarding but yes it can be frustrating too.

    been there  :-)
