I have a drawing of a door in which I would like to add to my tool catalog so that I can use it easily in the future. How might I go about doing this?

It should be in a library file somewhere not to be moved because you will only create a link.
Just open the drawing, Select the object (not on hte grips) and drag and drop to your desired pallete.
More details - log on to autocad exchange and there are many lessons there.
