Hi
I was wondering if you could help me with an issue I have. I originally created a drawing template in AutoCAD 2012 that was used in AutoCAD versions 2010 - 2011 and worked fine. After recently transitioning over to AutoCAD 2013 i have made modifications to the dwt file and it no longer appears to open/work in 2010 or 2011?
Has something changed in 2013 that means the templates won't work in older versions? Is there a setting I can change? I've never had this issue before until now? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to have to create different dwt files for different AutoCAD versions?
Thanks

yea, the drawing file format changed between 2012 and 2013, just like it did from 2009 to 2010. Typically, autodesk reworks the file format every third release. And the only difference between a dwg and a dwt is the last letter of the file extension.
To work around it, you can do a SaveAs to a dwg file, using the 2010 format choice, and then in Windows rename the .DWG to use a .DWT extension.

So save your new template as a drawing in an older format then rename its extension to .dwt.
By default, ACAD 13 cannot be opened by previous versions - you must purposely save it to an older version.

Thanks for your responses, I had missed this little caveat when reading the online help and I have now managed to get it working. I understand Autodesks addition of file types every 3 years but seems a little strange for you not then to be able to saveas dwt's in an appropriate format too as you can with dwg. Anyway thanks.
