Can someone PLEASE explain to me, why, when I open a drawing using the READ ONLY option from the user interface window, that I still get prompted to save the drawing when I exit??

Sometimes drawing settings are changed (e.g. custom ACADDOC.LSP file changing system variables), other times its as simple as changing the viewpoint via pan/zoom operations (yes, that is considered a save - the file is opened with the last view setting, is it not?).  AutoCAD doesn't know why the drawing is read-only - it could be a "template" DWG in a read-only folder which is intended to be saved somewhere else.  The prompt isn't completely useless.

There are times I want to copy a drawing from a previous project, make a few changes, and then save it into a current project.

To insure that I don't accidentally change the previous project's drawing, it is safest to open that drawing READONLY, then SAVEAS to the current project.

I can safely make changes before or after the SAVEAS.

If I forget to saveas, when I close the drawing, it'll ask me to save or not.

So, I actually like that feature.
