    Autocad 2013 Paperspace viewports

Hi, can anyone help when it comes to viewports in paperspace in 2013, due to the nature of my work i have several layout drawings all drawn on top of each other and all with ther own txt and dims etc, which again is all on top of each other making it impossible to work in model space, for this reason i work in paperspace within a viewport but now i have upgraded to 2013 while i am in mid command e.g. dimension and zoom into first point then zoom back out and in again to second point, by this time i have been kicked out of the viewport and just in paperspace so cant complete the command, doesnt always happen but happens enough to be frustrating. Does anyone know why this is happening?? Thank You.

What if you use the Maximize Viewport option. It is like working on the model tab, but it maintains your viewport layer settings.

I haven't loaded 2013, but I had the same issue in 2012 - random basis, especially when zooming while in a command.

While this isn't an answer to your problem, it may help you in the long run:

I've worked in offices that laid all of the floors over each other in model space.

What I did in that office is a second best solution, but they were really resistant to the idea of xrefs.

I changed the layer naming convention to be by floor, so instead of an A- orginator code the layers were by floor 1- 2- 3- etc.

I then built a toolbar with macros that turned off all layers and re-turned on 1-*.  The next button the same for 2-* etc...

It was a good work around that kept everyone reasonably happy.

The best solution, however, is learn the aggregate xref method.  It works a lot like the old mylar pinbar system, but doesn't suck, and won't rip gashes in the soft underbelly of your forearms, and clothes.

You basically break the drawing up into sets of layers each in a separate dwg file.  The you xref those together.

It's awesome for layer control and sorting, and re-using information.

Ever show an elevation beyond in a section drawing.  Don't copy it and let it fall out of date, xref and xclip it into your section.  Then when you change the elevation, the background of your section will update too.

...and don't forget that you can have the same XREF in two viewports, but one be all gray (as in an MEP background) and one in original full color :smileytongue:

If by some odd chance my nattering was useful -- that's great, glad to help. But if it actually solved your issue, then please mark my solution as accepted :smileyhappy:

    Hi,

Do you mind uploading your file (or part of it) and describing the steps to reproduce the issue?

    Cheers,

OK, try to upload it here, if it's too large then let me know.

Hi, loaded a file, in tab 05 Setting out, if work in the viewport lets say doing dimensions, as you zoom in to select your first point accurately and then zoom out and zoom back in to select your second point, not all the time but some of the time you will realise that you are no longer in the viewport but back in paperspace, works with other functions as well such as copy, move. I have tried this one this morning and somewhere betwwen 5 and 10mins it had happened, sometimes can be worse than others, i have seen having to give up on  a copy function cause everytime it was doing it and i ended up just going to modelspace which is not ideal, hope you can figure out what it is, I have had 2012 and never had this isssue, only as soon as I got 2013. Thank You

I've been creating dimensions for some time now, and I was not able to reproduce the issue.

I opened the file with the Recover command and it fixed one error, not sure if that helped.

Is this the only file affected?

    Cheers,
