turning off plot log PERMANENTLY

I NEVER need a plot log. I've unchecked Plot & Publish Log File in Options but I'm still getting plot logs with some files.  Why?

You might try Options > Plot and Publish Tab > Plot Stamp Settings > Advanced > Create Log File

I don't have an answer as to why this needs to be taken care of in multiple locations - that would be nice to know...

On the same page where you uncheck "Automatically save plot and publish log", click the "Plot Stamp Settings..." button and in the next window click the "Advanced" button.

At the bottom of that last window, uncheck the "Create a log file" option.
