How can a spline be exploded in Autocad 2015?

Use the SPLINEDIT command and convert it to a polyline.  Then explode.

Also try offset out, erase original, offset back in, erase offset out.

Select the spline, right click brings up menu, spline, convert to pline

Are there system variables that control this behavior?  For me, using that proceedure, still results in a spline.
