Im new to autocad. I have a set of 8 coordinates that outline a pit. I have been asked to calculate it's volume. I have input the coordinates, and have produced a 3D image of the pit. I was hoping to be able to convert the object (the pit) that I have created to a solid, so I could then determine the volume, although it is proving to be difficult.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could calculate the volume of this pit? Am I going aboout it the right way?
I am assuming that 4 coordinates represent the bottom of the pit and the other 4 the top.
Use 3DPOLY command to create polyline outline of each shape.
Use LOFT command to create a 3Dsolid of the 2 shapes.
Use MASSPROP command to see the volume of the solid.

Thanks for your help! Now my object has sides, but can I use the LOFT command to fill in the top and bottom? ie, fill the 3DPOLY shapes I created from my coordinates to make a solid object?

Impossible for autocad to do such calculation.
The surface is not planar, it needs ridges and valleys created by you to make surfaces and then it can do solid.
I have managed to create an enclosed object. Now I want to make the object solid, I have tried CONVTOSOLID, although this command does not seem to work. Can a volume be calculated for an irregular object such as this? Please see attached.
How would I go about creating ridges and valleys?

You can use SURFPATCH to create surfaces to cap the loft. Just select the top edges of the loft the first time you run SURFPATCH, and then select the bottom edges the second time. You should then have three surfaces that enclose a volume: the loft and the two endcaps created from SURFPATCH. You can use the SURFSCULPT command to create a solid from these three surfaces. I'm not sure how well SURFSCULPT works, but if it does work then you can use MASSPROP to get the volume of the solid.
