How to calculate the three-dimensional surface area of a revolved arch (such as attached file) by autocad 2007? such as an irregular dome.
thanks alot : My purpose is not drawing a 3D surface . My main purpose is , calculating the outer area of a dome surface ,(such as a shell ) which is made when an arc revolved around an axis in 3D space.
hello and thanks for your note: it can be assume parabolic surface or another similar thing , but if it was a hemisphere , area calculating was simple! i draw the curve quite arbitrary, without any specific equation.
Well if it is a true paraboloid then the solution can be found in several places on the web.
If it is not then I suggest that you slice the solid into a large number of pieces and treat each one as a cylinder. That would, of course, be an approximation whose accuracy would be dependent on the number of slices.
Perhpas my approach isn't as accurate as you might like but...
I modeled the dome and used solidedit to shell the solid, removing the bottom face and entering a really thin wall thickness. I used massprop to get the volume and divided that value by 2
