Hello for all,
I have a little problem when i try to make a union between same solids. I have a 2D profile of a screw (of a screw compressor) and i must sweep it to an helix. When i do this Autocad does not respond. So i did the profile in parts an now must join all parts. When i do this, the computer work for days, but never finish.
I think that the problem is because the 2D profile contains thousands of points.
Is there another way to do this? How can i simplificte the union?

If you say that it has thousands of points, then my guess is yes, that is the (one) source of the problem.
But to look at it it would be great to look to the drawing, any chance you can upload it (at least some of those profiles)
It is also necessary to look at the quality you need, so if you need it to do some rendering or you need it as object for manufacturing makes a big difference for how to handle that (well, in case of manufacturing I'm not sure to use AutoCAD therefor, might be easier with Inventor).

First of all, thanks for response.
I talk to my section boss about the possibility of upload the profile, and he said me that is a confidential plan , but i take a part of the profile which is attached
First y need do an animation of the two screw working, but then surely it will be manufactured.
The green "line" is the profile, the circle is only the central hole of the screw, and the other two lines are onli to delimitate the profile.
know any way to simplify the profile in Autocad or Inventor?

For that please find the attached drawing and see what I did. I created a spline with just a few vertizes of your small segment-lines (that makes the geometry much easier, but not that accurate in quality). Then I created a helix and run _SWEEP (with the correct options like align perpendicular ==> no; defined the base point). Well, I hope I understood your base parts correct and created what you were looking for.

Ok, that is definitly what I can't answer. I don't know the detailed process of how such objects are created, what data do you get and quality is needed to get that produced. I guess your segmented lines are created by a software that calculated the exact position letting both parts fit perfect together.
In that case (you need this exact segment lines for production) my feeling is you have to change to a product like inventor.

If you have access to Autodesk Inventor - I would use that MCAD product for a design like this.

Great idea Alfred. I will do this with the profile. Then I'll tell you how I was. Honestly I never made an animation, so it is also a challenge for me.

You are right Alfred. A colleague made a plugin for Autocad that calculate the exact profile. If we down the plugin iterations then the profiles has interference.
In the company we have also Inventor. But sincerely i don´t undestand the benefits of this program in this case (sorry for my ignorance). Could you be so kind as to explain me?

I don't know Inventor in detail, but at least it's built for very complex (and also rule based) 3D geometry, much more than AutoCAD.
For more info's about the advantages wait a few minutes, JDMather is a specialist in it and can it describe better as he knows both products.
