Rendered camera views with AutoCAD 2014

I am trying to render an image using only AutoCAD 2014. I have created my model and textured. I have created a camera and have enabled the sun/environment options, using a medium setting to render (using GI). The resultant render appears, as expected, in the render window.

Question 1

I need to save this rendered image with an alpha channel so that I can replace the background image in Photoshop. Regardeless of the file format I select (both .tga and .png have alpha saving options) it appears that the environment (i.e. the skylight system used by AutoCAD to light the scene) means that there is no alpha for my model. If I render the same camera with the sun/skylight switched off, the render is very dark (as there is no skylight lighting my scene), but a saved tga file retains the alpha as you would expect.

How can I make sure the AutoCAD environment (sky background and illumination) does not affect the alpha?

Question 2

I have set up my camera in the top viewport so that the field of view (around 28mm in this case) just encompasses my 3D model. When I render this camera view, the render is of the entire viewport - not just what you would 'see' through a 28mm lens. How can I make the renderer respect the camera lens when rendering? Attached graphic should help explain. There MUST be a way to tell Autocad JUST to render what would be visible through the 28mm lens. At the moment, it renders whatever it sees in the viewport, and this depends upon factors such as screen resolution and which panels I have docked.

Hi,

For the 1st question, I need to do some tests, so please give me some time and I will come back to you as soon as possible.

Regarding the 2nd question, when you create the camera, if you go in the View tab-> Views -> select the camera you created, the view will be updated with the camera view. At this point you can render the scene. Hope it helps

Thanks

I'm having a similar problem on the matter, I am matching a photograph took on site and a camera view set to the exact same settings the photograph was took at. Though whenever I come to render the view it renders the entire viewport and ignores the cameras field of view. How do I solve this problem and just render the camears field of view

I am struggling with this problem too. Trying to match a background image with a model. It's impossible to do if you can't adjust the view in the viewport and get the SAME result in the rendering. Please AutoDESK - give us some advice ...

Best advice I can think of: use software designed for the task.  The term you are looking for is "matchmove".  Even though its normally used in animation rather than stills the process is identical.  Find software which does that and you will get the results you are looking for.
