Quick layer look up under layer drop down in properties palette

Hello, I recently switched from 2011 to 2014. In 2011 I could select an object and under the layer drop down in the properties palette I could easily change the layer if I wanted to by clicking on the layer drop down and start typing in the layer I wanted to move that object to and it would highlight the layer as I was typing it (instead of scrolling through all my layer to find the correct one). Now in 2014 when I try to do that it won't string together what I am typing and take each letter I type individually. For example if I wanted to fin the "C-Utility-Sewer" layer in 2011 I would start my typing in C, -, U, T, etc and it would string all of the letters that I am typing together and take me to that layer. But in 2014 once I type the "U" in it forget about the "C" that I previously typed in and takes me to all the layers that begin with a "U" .....

Any help appreciated
