Recently upgraded Vault, Inventor and Autocad 2011 to 2015. After the upgrade I get the below error about 2-3 times a day. I dont know if it caused by Autocad or Vault?

prevhost.exe is a Windows file

Well......that isnt much help. It would seem that Vault 2015 does not work well with windows 7 preview handler.
One of our users here is having the same problem. Some direction would be appreciated.
Was there any resolution to this issue? We have a handful of users that are experiencing this issue; specifically when using the Vautl Preview.
There has been no resolution. When your preview windows shows a grey screen close vault and reopen it and it will work again for a few hours. Maybe vault 2016 will work?
Hi Jeff,
We are running Vault Professional 2016 SP1 and I have a user who gets this error when trying to print a file from the Vault client. I know your post says its caused by a Window file, but if it only occurs when printing from Vault, would you not want to try to solve this problem for your Vault users? Is any more information available on how to solve this problem since this was posted in 2016? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Okay folks. Just installed Autodesk Vault Professional 2017 (2017.0.1) on a brand new laptop running Windows 10 and I'm getting the "Preview Handler Surrogate Host has stopped working" error every time I view an CAD file by selecting open in window.
I wish Autodesk would figure out why we only get this error when using Vault. I know this is a Windows error, but if I only get the error when using Autodesk Vault, I would assume that Vault is somehow triggering this error and Autodesk would be interested in fixing it!
Any help would be appreciated.
This is a known issue per a case I logged several months ago... so far no resolution and the problem seems to be getting worse instead of better. Inquiries into the status of this haven't gotten any good answers either. And, try as I might I cannot locate the thread that kicked the whole thing off!
EDIT:
I found the thread: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/vault-forum/vault-2017-another-new-error/m-p/6602773#U6602773

Hi Chris,
We have had some problems with this on a couple computers running Windows 7. We now making the move to Windows 10. This is the first installation of Vault Pro 2017 on a Windows 10 computer and we're having issues. I hope we don't see more of this.
Autodesk's lack of help on this is very disappointing as well.

@jweiss1313 Hey, John. I've also been having an issue where the ECO Markup files being created using ADR, are saving but not being attached back to the change order they are created in. I, as admin, have to chase around behind people and attach them manually. I am convinced that all of these are related issues, but I have no evidence or expertise to back that up with.

We re-imaged the laptop OS to Windows 7 x64 and we are having the same issue. It only appears to happen when doing an the Vault open in window command on AutoCAD files and only when I resize the view window or manipulate the view in any way. The error message only appears when we close the window.
I tested numerous Inventor parts, drawings and assemblies and I get no error.
If Autodesk is watching, I believe this information in helpful in troubleshooting this problem.

I wish I could detect such a pattern. I've had this on Windows 8, Windows 10, laptops, desktops, Surfaces (3 & 4),... always when trying to view a file preview, and the frequency is so random as to be maddening.

Okay we are having more and more issues with this error. I just deployed a brand new Windows 10 engineering workstation yesterday and the engineer is complaining that he's getting this error.
Autodesk really needs to step up to the plate and fix this issue. This error has been occurring for years now and its time to fix it!
We are having the same issue with Vault 2014 and Windows 10. Very annoying because you must close Vault and reopen app several times a day. I was hoping the next upgrade would address this but after reading recent posts I find it is still a problem.
Very disappointed in Autodesk.
Starting Monday we're started getting this on most machines to the point it's on every PC and it is repeatable. We will be posting a Support Request soon as I'm done here. But if we do a View in Window on 2 files we will get a Surrogate error when we close either of those 2 files. We're on Vault 2017 and it does it with both Win 7 and 10. Will do it w/ DR 2013 or 2017. Tried to tie it to a windows update but can't find a correlation yet.
We also have an issue where Change Orders will lock up when they sit idle for 10-15 minutes as well which we still have Autodesk Working on.
Will post if we learn something.
Thanks.
We still get this from time to time as well, random enough that I cannot pinpoint a workflow that causes it. The surrogate just seems to get tired after a while and takes a nap. We also have intermittent occurrences of the previews simply not showing, just a big white square where they should be. In these instances we can sometimes click off the file and back to get the preview to show.
Also have been battling with ECO's for a few years with markups. If a user is using the ECO markup toolbar to create a markup, and it takes too long, they are unable to save the file and have it attach to the ECO. Several difference scenarios there:
In most of these cases, I end up manually finding and attaching the markup files for the users. I've finally been able to reproduce this in testing, but again, cannot nail down a specific cause. It also seems random.
This is also Vault 2017. As some of you already know, I have just loaded Vault 2018 on a test machine. I'll have a look at this in the next several days and see if I can reproduce in 2018.
