Mtext Command causing high CPU usage

I'm currently using AutoCad 2013 on a Lenovo Thinkpad X230 with windows 7 64 bit.  I have 8 gb of ram and a core I7 processor which seem up to the task for the rather small files I create.  My issue is that whenever I initiate the mtext command or attempt to edit an mtext object, my cpu usage will jump from about 0 to 4% up to 20 to 30% and will stay at that level until I close the drawing.  This causes the fans to run constantly and makes working a little more jumpy.  I've tried removing AutoCad completely and reinstlling.  I've tried loading up AutoCAd 2014 (and subsequently removing it) and now I'm back to AutoCad 2013 and the problem persists.

I was wondering if anyone can help me debug this problem.  I'm assuming it has something to do with the computer or some other software that is running in the background.  It's odd that it would only affect this one command.  The computer is only 1 month old and I've done the hardware checks that Lenovo offers (no problems indicated).  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

What process uses the cpu in that case, the ACAD.EXE or anohter one?

What happens if you play with sysvars MTEXTED (e.g. setting that to "." or "OldEditor" >>>details<<<) and MTEXTTOOLBAR (>>>details<<<)?

Hey Alfred,

Well your suggestion worked like a champ. The process that would overtax
the cpu was indeed the aced.exe file. So, I changed the mtexted variable to
"oldeditor" as you suggested and the problem is resolved. The editor isn't
nearly as robust, but I think I can live with it. I tried to set the
mtexted variable to "wordpad.exe" and it worked in terms of bringing up that
editor and not causing a problem with acad.exe. But I found that any
editing other than adding or removing text would not seem to be saved back
to the drawing file. That's too bad because it would be nice to have that
type of editing function. If you've had any success with an external
editor, I'd love to hear it.

Anyway, I really can't thank you enough for your help and the very quick
response. This has been driving me nuts :).

Have a great day,

Rick
