JOIN LINE AND POLYLINE AND IT CREATES A SPLINE? WTF?

Joining a line and a poyline containing a polyline arc creates a spline now? I don't believe I've encountered this behavior before? Why can't it just create a polyline? If I convert the spline back to the polyline it now has 1000000000000 vertices in the arc, instead of a standard polyline arc? Is this a variable somewhere? Or is this standard and somehow I missed it the last x number of years?

Re: the line+pline join = spline
I cannot recreate this in 2015.

Not in 2014-2013 or 2012 here either.
Method of "joining" is...?
Any chance you have a DWG file where this occurs that you can post here?

When a line and pline are not created on the same UCS

... or when the pline has been rotated out of it's original plane

... or when the pline and line are non-coplanar

AutoCAD2011 JOIN command will not join

AutoCAD2012 JOIN command will join and convert to 3D poly and "straighten" curved segments

AutoCAD2013-2015 JOIN command will join and convert to Spine
