File Tabs prevent layout switching

Is there any way to prevent the file tabs from switching your model/layout space?

I like having them so I can easily see which drawings I have open, and for switching them. However, while scrolling over the preview to verify which drawing I wish to switch to, the preview often changes my current space (even if I don't actually select it). This gets really annoying and I'd like to prevent this feature, is this possible?

FILETABTHUMBHOVER system variable. Set it to 0.

And if you want the name only, set FILTABPREVIEW to 0.

My animal instincts snap back only to end up in.... model space!

Any secrets on how to turn off this completly useless function?

I get the sentiment, I'd like to turn off the "Model/Layout dropdown" feature of the file tabs too.

But having said that, the delay is such that you can easily move the cursor in time to avoid the dropdown.

You really have to sit on the tab for a full second or so, in order for it to appear.
