You might give a bit more information.

File sizes?

Geometry complexity....

Contact Dell, talk to a sales rep, thru can help you configure a system. Write down the specs, go shop around for similar units from other manufacturers. Ask about that configuration here if you want.

Hello from France

Welcome to the Autodesk/AutoCAD Forums !

So: Mainly 2D - Architectural floor plans and blueprints - small / medium / large models/drawings ? Not sure yet - Budget ? Any

I am needing the same recommendations. What would be a good laptop that would run AutoCAD 2014?

So a Dell/HP/etc fast notebook will be OK :
- Fast Core i5 or Core i7 (Basic Speed > 3.0 Ghz - if possible)
- 16 Gb Ram
- 2 Gb Ram (dedicated) graphic card
- Fast Sata HDD or maybe SSD + Fast Sata

Maybe a good Dell Precision M3800, HP Zbook 15/17, etc ...
Screen 15" so the weight be as light as possible ...

I'm going to be using my new laptop for AutoCAD work, creating 2D residential floor plans and blueprints. But also playing games at max settings such as Lord of the Rings Online, ARMA III, Total War series, older games like Age of Empires and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Also the normal Netflix, internet and Skype etc.

I'm mainly looking at these right now. All suggestions are welcome.

Also, does anyone know where I might be able to get certified as an Architectural Drafter or just as AutoCAD Certified/Drafter al beit online or somwhere in the Ft Worth, Texas area inexpensively? All help is greatly appreciated!!!! I've included some pictures of work that I've done on my own. This is using no templates of any kind. All my own creation.

I am currently studying 3D Design and am searching for the most suitablest or best laptop to work with AutoCad, Illustrator and similar programmes. A great audio experience would be plus since I listen to lots of music and a light machine since I have to carry it around with lots of other stuff.

Although standard recommendation is a Macbook Pro, I am not so convinced since Macs are very expensive and AutoCad appears to run better on Windows.

I was doing some research and came across a number of laptops / brands that have been recommended on some forums.

Please, I would appreciate some advice, recommendations on what machine to buy.

The machines / brands I have found are:

MSI G Series GE70 2OE-017US

CLEVO, costumisable,

DELL costumisable

Minimum recommendation is the spec of a Macbook Pro.

Many thanks 🙂

Hello

Welcome to the Autodesk/AutoCAD Forums !

A few questions ...

0) Which software exactly ? ACAD ? / Inventor ?

1) Your processor "Intel Core i7-4900MQ" is OK and fast and modern - 4 Cores/8 Threads / 2.8-3.8 Ghz / 8 Mb cache ?

2) 8 Gb Ram could be not enough for medium/large 3D models - 16 Gb will be better ?

3) Is your graphic card : a K2100M with 2 GB GDDR5 ? - For me this card is OK !

Waiting ...

Hi braudpat

The software I'm using is ACAD only.

Yes that is my processor

Yes the graphic is just like what you had describe

But still when draw in 2 d model, it is working smooth.

Once I try to draw in 3d model. The whole laptop either jam which I had to force restart, when drawing the cursor is not moving smoothly, or it keep the software is not running do I want to terminate it.

This really give me a hard time ad I spent quite a huge money on this laptop.

Other than the ram is there anything else I need to modify?

Your advice is truly appreciated

Maybe a little late, but if you are doing residential house plans,  Home Designer Pro is top of the line before you get into the Chief Architect series.  It does everything, mainly using "blocks" including furnishings.......and even 3D with rotated views.  I have both Autocad LT 13 and HDP and use HDP for house design.

Hello JDMather,

I have no budget, I am currently using a MSI gaming laptop, it has 12G memory, i7-4700MQ, 1TB HD, GTX-770M video card. I am running window 8.1 and AutoCAD 14. This laptop is very heavy, especially I am taking it with me when I travel.

I am looking for a small power laptop, smaller screen, SSD HD, but with a powerful memory and video card. Can you give me some suggestions?

Regards,

Albert,

Hello,

I need to buy a new desktop computer - I'm a student in an interior design program. I've been looking at the above computer with these details:

AMD A10-6700T

2TB

8GB

AMD Radeon HD 8650D Graphics

Can anyone tell me if this will suit my needs (I don't want to spend more than $1200)?

Or, suggest something better?

Thanks!
