AutoCAD 2015: Switch to dedicated video graphics?

My 2015 installation is not recognizing my dedicated graphics card (AMD FirePro V4900) and is instead using the on-board Intel HD Graphics 3000.  The Autodesk website doesn't list any cards certified for 2015, but surely there must be a way to work around this until Autodesk adds support.

Have any of the beta testers found a way to point to the dedicated graphics instead of the on-board ones?

Thanks

Search around here for many tips and suggestions (it's been around for some time): you need to turn off the onboard graphics through your laptops BIOS I believe.

I did a clean OS install on an existing machine that was previously working fine with AutoCAD 2012 and 2014.  I wouldn't think that reinstalling the OS would change the BIOS settings (it should technically be working outside of the BIOS, I think), but I'll check.  Thanks for the tip.

I went into my BIOS and changed the onboard VGA from "Auto" to "Enable if no EXT PEG - Disable onboard GPU if GPU exists in the PEG slot".  Even though it should have been automatically switching, I've now disabled the onboard and AutoCAD says it is using it.

However, it is still having graphic issues, such as crosshairs disappearing in viewports.  I suppose it will be up to AMD to release updated drivers that work with AutoCAD 2015 so my once-certified card can again be certified.

Changing the hardware acceleration settings in your AutoCAD 2015 may help too. You can also check Autodesk's website for possible drivers when the 2015 release options become available soon.

Unfortunately, unchecking Hardware Acceleration made my graphics performance worse.  The crosshairs now constantly flash when being moved.  It did fix the viewport problem, but the flashing all the time is probably worse, so I turned it back on.  I think I'll just have to wait until an updated driver is release.  I appreciate your responses, though.

Turn off LINESMOOTHING variable, and see if that helps: it's new to 2015 and on by default.

Already tried that when I was turning the Hardware Acceleration on and off.  No luck.

I also tried updating to the latest driver from AMD from Jan. 2014, but that didn't help either.  Same issue with the crosshairs disappearing in the viewport.

It seems to be a common problem in AutoCAD2015. I experience the same problem on a Lenovo W540 with Nvidia 2000M graphics card combined with a Intel card.

When Hardware Acceleration is enabled, the crosshair is not updated correct.

I stand corrected.  I turned off line smoothing with Hardware Acceleration off, but not while it was on.  Turning line smoothing off while Hardware Acceleration is on fixed the viewport crosshairs problem.

I'm marking this thread solved since AutoCAD technically is seeing my onboard card now, even if it doesn't know what to do with it yet.  The graphics performance is still suffering greatly, especially while loading a tab with a lot of linework (up to 5 minutes to render what would have taken maybe 10 seconds in AutoCAD 2014).

Thanks for your help -- it is greatly appreciated!

I went ahead and installed this AutoCAD plug-in for my AMD graphics card:
http://www.amd.com/us/products/workstation/graphics/tools/pages/autodesk-plug-ins.aspx

Even though it's for 2010-2011, the performance on our computers seems to have improved.  Perhaps it was a coincidence and something else was at play, but the long wait times for redraw have not been an issue again.  It's a very small add-on, so I'm not worried about it either way.

Line Smoothing still doesn't work, though, but I wouldn't expect it to for a driver plug-in that came out long before the Line Smoothing feature was available.

I see a quadro 600 listed, but not a quadro 1000.  this basically leaves my machine unusable for autocad 2015 and certainly mitigates the joys of moving into the new version.  not cool.

if acceleration is on at all, I get flashing bits of cursor as I move around, and that persist.  if I turn acceleration off, I may as well be on a 286 with version 11.
