AutoCAD 2013 Slow

I am having problems with Auto Cad 2013

We have the system requirements in place with a certified and recommended video card and driver.

The problems show up in 3D DWG’s and not in smaller 2D DWG’s

The curser moves fast and freely over text and dims, but when it comes to the edge of an object it stalls at the point of contact. My mouse will have moved farther than the location of the curser and a few seconds later the curser will jump to where it should be.

In an attempt to select items the selection box will stop at the point of contact and stall for up to a minute and then jump, if I let the go of the left click button on my mouse it takes two or three times of doing this in order to select a number of items.

With the DWG file size at 30,000 kb, when I try to select the entire DWG it causes Auto Cad to fall into a not responding mode although it is still working on things and after about one minute will come bake to show that the items are selected but it still takes a few more seconds before I can move the curser

The selected DWG is very slow in its response to a pan or a zoom command and will not move fluidly but in a jump type of movement or even a two jumps.

"We have the system requirements in place with a certified and recommended video card and driver."
A few questions related to "slow".
What are the specs for your computer?
Are Service Packs up to date?
What drawing object types are you hovering over when it stalls?

Without additional information, a 30,000 kb file size will require more than the minimum system requirements for RAM, processor etc. for satisfactory performance.

Hi,

>> when it comes to the edge of an object it stalls at the point of contact

Set the sysvar ROLLOVERTIPS to 0 and try again (>>>details<<<).

... also try setting SELECTIONPREVIEW to 0 or 2 and PROPERTYPREVIEW to 0

Other suggestions:

  • Turn off all the Buttons on the Status Bar (especially SelectionCycling, Dynamic UCS and Dynamic Input)
  • Undock and Close all open Palettes
  • Make sure the Command line is Docked
  • Maximize AutoCAD
  • Switch to 2D WireFrame visual style
  • Disable Windows gimmicks (Aero themes)

Next, if Hardware Acceleration is ON, turn it OFF, and if it's OFF, turn it ON.

If turning off all these features helps performance, start turning them back on one at a time and see which (if any) affect performance.

Ah, the big 3 in red above! Based on OP's main complaint, I'm going with DUCS 🙂

Even though "turning off Palettes" was mentioned, I'd like to point out that the Layer Palette is espcially bad at hogging resources.

Set LAYERDLGMODE to 0 (zero) to use the "old fashioned" Layer Dialog Box.

The item type is 3D solids.

30 000 KB is huge for an AutoCAD DWG, more so with only 8 GB RAM.  I would recommend a combination of more RAM plus work procedures to optimize the modeling process so your files are a reasonable size (e.g. we use 8 GB RAM with 3D files that are around 10 - 20% of yours without issue).

Maybe test with a small drawing containing the problem objects. Did you verify HW acceleration was on?

3DCONFIG, click Manual Tune.
