2015 & Selecting multiple objects - NOT a PICKADD issue

hi......in 2015, if I select 2-8 or 10 approx. objects to move or copy, everything seems fine....I I happen to try for 12-20 or more, the whole prcedure now becomes bogged down/sluggish/jumpy etc.....with the same dwg in 2013, I can select 20, 40, 100 objects, no issue

(Idon't know the treshold number as it seems to vary with dwgs, but really annoying)...

anyone else?......

thanks

Randy

Yep, selection of many objects or blocks or some solid hatches is much slower in 2015 compared to previous versions for me.  2015 leaves much to be desired performance-wise.

Would you like to help us (Autodesk) out with figuring out what the problem is?

We are troubleshooting this issue right now. There was work done that should have made it extremely fast.

If you are willing to help out, let me know and I will send you some steps to turn on the performance monitoring tool and send a report. The tool requires A360 so if you have declined to install A360 then the tool will not work.

I don't want to detract from your work, but if you have a minute to help out, let me know.

I wouldn't mind helping with this performance problem and also this one, but I don't have 360 installed and I don't want to install it.  Is there another way, perhaps?

A guess: if you turn off LINESMOOTHING (and or LINEFADING) does the problem go away? I just moved 5111 objects in my file as a test in 2015 (Win7 64bit) and I can't say it's any slower with the same test in 2014, but I do have both variables off.

hi Pendean....I have discovered my issue may be in selecting numerous pieces of hatch...someone drew multiple bolt heads as a hex with solid hatch....I may re-do them as blocks ( the way they should have been done in the 1st place) and see if that is any better......moving/ copying many deck planks is not the issue with 2015 I thought it was....

my system is a farily new Dell i7-2600@ 3.4 Ghz 16GB ram 64 bit Win7 machine

For me, I've so far narrowed the AutoCAD 2015 problem down to selecting solid hatches with radii, or blocks with these hatches in them.  The more of these encompassed in the selection, the longer the delay.  LINESMOOTHING and LINEFADING have no effect for me.

In the attached drawing below, I can select the first three test blocks no problem in 2015.  If I open Test2 or Test3 using -BEDIT and select the hatch, I experience a slight delay.  If I select the Test4 block or open it with -BEDIT I experience a longer delay.  The Test5 block experiences even longer delays still.

All of these can be measured against the ANSI31 baselines below and against AutoCAD 2014, where I experience no delays with any of the tests.

I am still trying to find out if performance reports can be completed without A360.

But, if the problem is with hatch I have two suggestions:

1. As mentioned Type LINESMOOTHING and turn it to off.

2. Join the beta program to get early access to service packs through:

http://beta.autodesk.com/callout/?callid=69AA4E59BF9D412BBEBC50B1151E3215

See if one of those two solves the problem.

Meanwhile, I should get an answer soon on the performance tool.

Saxmann,

Would you be willing to submit a performance report? You would need A360. It looks like NRZ does not have A360. I can send you details on how to do that if you are able to submit one.

Saxmann:

I was able to narrow this down to having SELECTIONEFFECT set to 0 rather than the AutoCAD 2015 default 1 (HIGHLIGHT = 0 also works, but that's even worse).  If you can stand the blue selection, I'd say this is the work-around for now.  Can you test that out and see if it works for you?

Thanks for the information both of you.

I think there are several of us that are seeing the problem now. We are creating our own performance reports. So, no need to focus additional time on this.

The unfortunate thing is that we cannot specifically discuss details of what may happen in the future. So, I am sorry to leave you speculating. I know at least one of you is involved in the Service Pack Beta program. I can discuss some things additional on the Beta site, but there is very little information so far.

For now, it does look like the selectioneffect setting is at least how you can make it faster (but then the highlight is blue).

Is there a way to tone down the blue highlights a shade or two??

No problem.  AutoCAD 2015 SP2 fixes this bug as well:
