@ symbol in font names

I'm a bit curious about this -- it seems that in the AutoCAD Style dialog & MTEXT pulldown list, and in no other application I've used, there are duplicate font names, with a @ symbol prefacing the name for many TTF fonts, and therfore moving that entry to the top of the list.  It doesn't happen to every font, but the list of affected font names seems to grow over time, and differs between computers.

for example, The Windows font folder shows a "Batang Regular" font, while AutoCAD shows both a "@BATANG" and a "BATANG" font. None of the impacted fonts are one I recall ever using. and the ones I do use are pushed further down in the list by this behavior

Anyone know why this happens? or better, how to get rid of the @FontName in the list?

Go to REGEDIT and kill them

TrueType fonts that start with "@" in AutoCAD are APAC (Asia-Pacific) vertical fonts. These "@" fonts are not duplicates of the fonts without "@". The "@" fonts are made for vertically aligned text.

See the following screenshot as an example of using "@ MSP Gothick" for Japanese vertical input:

Phil,

Could you explain where the fonts are installed, as they are not listed in the Windows\Fonts directory as being installed by the OS.

These fonts come with Windows. AutoCAD does not install them.

The reason that you don't see them in Microsoft Word (or most other programs) is because they filter them.

You can browse these @ fonts in the Registry Editor (see the above post from Patchy).
