used -purge and purged all the regapp this and that. still 3.42mb.
started with 400k from new blank template metric without template, then i pasted in this boundary polyline and some mtext and leaders. then it screws up this file. see you experts have any magic.
i tried google and played with many different ways. those objects are the culprit. if you block it out it will make the blocked out file large. just a simple polyline boundary. 100 vertices at most with some coordinates labeled. but i should mention the file was exported from civil 3d first and those exploded exported objects are the ones being copied.
empty big file is attached.

Just as I suspected
It's full of the DGN linetype bloat.
Here is what I get when I run DGNPURGE (more info on that here)
"DGNPURGE" Purged 1652 unreferenced complex linetype records (of 1652). Purged 27178 unreferenced strokes (of 27178).
thank you very much, this is probably why. i see a million weird linetype loaded in current drawing.
i guess i never seen this before because i never had to deal with ustn stuff. i can do .net programming been doing that for many years but don't really feel like it right now. can't take credit on this one anyways. i will get those c# code compiled later.
but easier, maybe you have the dll i can netload that works for 2012 versions?
nevermind, i didn't read carefully just go straight to that Kean guy's code. looks like there is one hotfix for 2012.
here's a paste for other people:
testing it now. will report back in a few minutes.
