when i add a custom template file location under options>files>template settings>drawing template file location>default template file name for QNEW i i get the error message c:\program files\autodesk\autocad mechanical 2012\acadm\amg3dim.arx cannot find a dll or other file that it needs. if i remove my custom template file location and leave it blank, i get no error. can anyone shed some light? its the same thing for the drawing template file location, if i change the default file location to another path, i get a different dll error message when launching cad.

If you happen to be using Windows 7, try right-clicking AutoCAD Mechanical 2012 and choosing "Run as administrator" to launch it. It might also be good to try turning off User Account Control:

  1. Click the Start menu and in the search field type UAC.
  2. In the window that comes up, move the slider down to Never Notify.
  3. Click OK and then restart the computer.

If the above doesn't help, then try resetting AutoCAD to defaults by clicking Start > All Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD Mechanical 2012 > Reset Settings To Default.

Let me know if this helps.

Go ahead and try resetting AutoCAD Mechanical to defaults. If that doesn't fix the error, then do a repair or uninstall/reinstall of AutoCAD Mechanical 2012.

Could the error be coming from your template file? Try designating a different DWT file in the same location as the default template that you want to use.
