Hi,

welcome @forums.autodesk.com!

What release of AutoCAD do you speak about? And where have you downloaded this?

32-bit

64-bit?

error messages?

More information is needed.

Download

Install

Activation

are all different steps.

It sounds like you are stuck at the Install step, not the Activation step.

Hi Alfred,

I had to download autocad 2012 , I have windows vista home premium 32 bit,
I have downloaded it , and have gone through the install process, and thats
it , nothing else happens or opens when I try to activate it , it says it
is installed but some programs failed to install, every time Itry to open
the program or I go into my files and click on set up to install , it just
takes me through the installation process again, I have done this while I
have been connected to the net and signed in to autocad , I asked for help
from the Uni IT guys and they got back to me and said autocad no longer
supports vista and I have to buy windows 7 programme and run it on my
laptop which is going to cost time and money just for a few weeks , so I,m
at a brick wall , so any help would be good , but it still says it is
compatable with vista, I have checked my setting in case it was being
blocked.

thanks
Lyn

Hi JD,
you could be right , windows vista home premium 32 bit, when I
try to install autocad 2012 it says installation successfull but certain
programs failed to install and wont go past that , the IT guy from my uni
says that autocad dosn,t support vista anymore , and told me to get windows
7 as the running programe on my lap top, i,m in Australia, thats a big cost
nd I would have to get a IT person to do it , seems a bit drastic for a few
weeks , I checked to make sure my pc setting were stopping the programe ,
and it isn,t , I cant get to the activation stage, it is downloaded but
whatever I do it just takes me through the installation process over and
over again.

Thanks
Lyn

Hi,

>> it says it is installed but some programs failed to install

Which failed? That's important before we can continue (detailed, please not "some programs...")

>> I asked for help from the Uni IT guys and they got back to me and said

>> autocad no longer supports vista

True for AutCAD 2013 and newer, not correct for AutoCAD 2012 (>>>click<<<) as long as you have installed SP2 for your Vista.

Your IT guys need to go back to school.
Have them read this thread and respond with the source of their information (for unsupported OS).
Sounds like they are looking at the specifications for later releases.

In any case, even if not supported by Autodesk, I was running later versions on Vista 32-bit than you are trying to install.

Are you sure your Vista is 32-bit version?

Did you download the 32-bit version of AutoCAD?

Did you turn off UAC during the install?

You keep referring to Activation, but you are not ready to activate until you get it working (I recommend running in Trial mode for at least a couple of weeks before activating).

Hi Alfred,

sorry for the delay, long work hours, yes I will be calling the IT guys tomorrow , I click run for the installation, put in my serial number, click install on this computer , then click on the country i,m in Australia, 3 programs come up, Autodesk 2012 , Auto desk design review, and autodesk inventor Fusion 2012 , I click install, then wait a bit then it comes up installation complete and some products failed to install, with a x against the whole 3 , I only need autocad 2012 so I have only clicked that box and still the same result  and I cant get any further than that
