One answer for many questions will not do...

Did you set FILEDIA to 1?

Nothing happens, but does AutoCAD act as though something is happening, perhaps off screen?

are you getting anything at the command line?
Have you restarted AutoCAD? Windows?

Did you recently explore dual screens, or an enlarged desktop scheme in Windows?

I run a computer lab with 25 machines with AutoCAD installed and I have no intention of reinstalling on all of them to fix this problem.

To clarify the problem:

No matter how I try to initalize the attach command, I get no dialog box to select the file I want to attach.

FILEDIA is set to 1

When I use the attach button in the XREF panel the command line prints CANCEL twice, then _XATTACH, then nothing happens.

All 25 stations do this? messed up from deployment ?

CUI and check the Macro of AttachXref to see if they all said: ^c^c_Xattach

The 25 that had Service Pack 1 installed all have the same attach command failure.

Other computers in the building without the service pack installed handle xref attaching just fine.

The macro for AttachXref is  ^C^C_xattach

Test by replace the .CUIX in the corrupted PC.

(Back up of the existing one)

That way you don't have to reinstall 25 of them.

Is this Plain autocad ?

If it's not, check :

ATTDIA =1

Oddly enough, if I turn FILEDIA to 0 I can manually type in the path to the file and it attaches just fine.
