XREF linetypes

I am having issues with my file sizes being too large and I am noticing that the are thousands of linetypes that autocad will not let me purge or delete. I have created a new drawing with absolutely nothing in it (Layers, blocks linetypes etc.)

I tried 2 methods, one I inserted and the other I copied just the entities etc that I needed to the clipboard and pasted it into the blank drawing. Neither one worked as the zillions of linetypes still came with it. The purge shows no linetypes can be purged and the linetype control dialog box won't let me delete any of them. How do I get these out of my drawing? See attached JPG for a partial list of unpurgeable linetypes.

We have the same issue. A lot of our staff cut and paste to create their detail sheets, using data from other projects to advance their current drawings. Some of these drawings contain entities that have been takedn from civil drawings with special linetypes derived from their special software. These become part of the drawing and any item copied from these drawings into any other drawing brings along all that stuff. We finally found the way to get rid of it all. If you have a lot of drawings "infected" by this infliction, it will be a bit tedious but it will work. Here is the procedure.

1) Open the infected drawing

2) use dxfout to create a dxf of the entire drawing

3) close the drawing

4) use dxfin to bring in the dxf just created

5) use audit and say yes to fix all errors. (there will be a lot of them)

6) use purge and purge all items. Make sure purge nested objects is selected. (even though no linetypes are listed this will purge them if unused)

7) use linetype command (LT for short) to verify all the extraneous linetypes are gone.

😎 use saveas to overwrite the drawing used to create the dxf

9) erase the dxf file

That is essentially what I have been doing and it has been working.

I have to re-import all settings again but at least the drawing gets cleaned
out.

Thank you for getting back to me.
