Slow plot dialog, removed network printer

There are thousaands of old autocad dwg files (many different ac versions from past decades) that has many different "last used" plotting device configurations.

Some of them are for local printer and some of them are for network printer.

Common is that all those printers are long gone and even some of the printer servers are too.

Now each time when printing those  documents Autocad takes forever to search the printers and hosts.

How to fix? I'm looking for a automatic query that goes trough those files and removes the print history&settings or any other tha "please manually load and save each file"

it's not the files that are the problem.

More than likely you either have printers/plotters that are setup in Windows and have recently been removed or had some settings changed, or perhaps you have a network drive mapping that is no longer present or has changed.

That issue can affect one or many pc's connected to a network.

We regularly receive files from other locations that people have saved their plotter configs within the files and experience no hesitation when opening them.  The warning window stating the plotter not found msg pops right up instantly.

Thank you for your reply.

There is also years ago removed old server path that might give troubles. But why would old .dwg files save any network paths ? blocks maybe?

The slowness is not while opening, it is while opening the print dialog (usually R14 files)

xref's if they exist might retain old paths, blocks don't have any path info in the I believe.

That was my mistake saying "opening the files", but the problem you state about when you go to plot and then Acad is slow presenting the plot dialog window - either you have plotters/printers setup in the operating system that no longer exist or you might also have pc3 files setup within Acad that are looking for a plotter/printer that no longer exist.
