Selecting succesive objects

This problem came up anew. Suddenly, when I select objects, the existing selected objects deselect. If this is a setting I inadvertently misused I don't know why the setting exists. Can anyone tell me how I can get back to selecting successive objects?

PICKADD = 1

Tools > Options > Selection > Use Shift to add to Selection  <-- Un-check it
