Re-Installation of Autocad 10 Mechanical

Recently we had a computer issue that forced us to remove all software from the computer, then reinstall the software.

We reinstalled our AutoCAD 10 mechanical.

When we attempted to use the save as function to re-create another file for the drawing were viewing , nothing happens.  Is there a button or a function that needs to be turned back on that will allow us to "save as" like we did before ?

Usually "something" happens when a command is attempted in AutoCAD. How are you attempting to run SAVEAS (menu pick, toolbar button, commandline)?  Please post a screenshot of what appears on the commandline including AutoCAD's response.

We are using the drop-down menu on the top left and we you should click on it go to the save as function and then it usually has a box that opens up that allows us to say what we want to save it as and two wherein the computer. At this time when you click it nothing takes place.

You're looking for FILEDIA or if it's Mechanical, you should look for ATTDIA and set it to 1.

Leme re-type that response...

We use the top left drop doen menu to click on "save as". Then a box open up which allows us to designate a save as name and where in the computer it will be save to.

Right now, nothing happen when we click the "save as" button

We are looking at the Red Capitol A which when clicked on has a drop down menu with "save as" as an option

Looks like Patchy may have "guessed" right, based on the vague description of the issue.

When (if) CMDDIA is turned off (=0), the browse window will not pop up.  To get it to pop up, you can either type a tilde (~) character at the command prompt (when it's expecting a filename), or you can cancel the command, set CMDDIA = 1, and then run the SAVEAS again.

Edit: Pardon my English: I meant FILEDIA where I wrote CMDDIA (Smiley Embarassed)

Patchy has pointed you to the corrective action.  type FILEDIA at the command line -- ensure that the value is set to 1.  If it's zero, change to 1.  If it's aleady 1, let us know and we'll make additional suggestions.  but that's most probably the answer.

ninja'd again 🙂

"...and the fuction "save as" has returned"

It actually never went away.  The command was doing exactly what it is intended to do.  All that had changed was the setting of a variable that affects the appearance (pop-up) of file navigation (browse) windows for those commands that "normally" use them.  In certain scenarios it is (or has been in the past) important for these pop-ups to be disabled (i.e. while running certain LISP routines or scripts), which is (was) the main purpose of the variable.  The tilde (~) key "trick" can be handy to keep in your back pocket in case the setting "mysteriously" changes on you in the future.
