One or more objects in this drawing cannot be saved to the specified format

In 2011 every so often I get this error "One or more objects in this drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created." This happens and I just go and click file or regen and sometimes it just saves the file other times it does not. Anybody know what causes this or why it happens.

command: EXPORTTOAUTOCAD and see if it'll fix the problem.

That short version of the command was there and worked, but I really wanted to know why I get the error.

The commands listed seemed to work, but no file was created.  I tried all of the other suggestions posted here to no avail.  Also, when I get this command, I can't Ctrl+C my drawing--it says "copy to clipboard failed".

I think when I had this problem before, it saved when I closed cad, even though it said it didn't.  (I didn't try that this time as weird things happened when I ran an audit that I didn't want to save.)

AEC content in a file will do that if you are running an AutoCAD version not able to create/edit them.

Exploding these using AECTOACAD or -EXPORTTOAUTOCAD commands and converting them to plain AutoCAD objects is a popular cure for those using plain AutoCAD but tapping DWG files from verticals like ARCH or CIVIL3D etc.

Renaming the directory the drawing is saved in while the drawing is open will also cause this error. Doing a "saveas" to something else fixed it for me.

This is an old thread but I thought I should add another solution to the mix.

We are running a Novell Network environment with specific allotments of space for the CAD users.

That exact message appears when the user runs out of space on the network file server and tries to save a drawing there.

Free up space on the file server, the error message goes away and allows you to save.

Hope this saves someone a little time and head scratching.

Thanks greatly for that.  Was exactly my problem too!
