Objects Beyond Back Clipping Plane Plotting but Not Visible?

What would cause certain objects, 50' beyond the back clipping plane (using dview), to plot? Moreover, the layer these objects are on is Frozen in the viewport.

More strange, these "phantoms" do not appear in the vport within acad, only when plotting. It's as if they have a mind of their own.

I even tried to set their layers in the vport to color yellow, and they still don't obey.

Also, if their layer(s) is globally frozen, they won't plot.... but of I course I have other vports where I want them to plot...

It's specifc objects, as there is plenty of stuff beyond the clipping plane, but only these objects plot.

Also happens in model space, and it doesn't matter what plotter I use.

Any ideas? See attached...
