I bought a brandnew laptop for college thats running windows 8 for my autocad drafting class. The class is still using autocad 2012. So thats the one i need. Iv tried installing cad 2012 but it keeps throwing a directx error. Iv searched these fourms and microsofts and i cant find anything that will make this work. Is windows 8 not supported by cad 2012? Is there a patch i can download? is there a way to skip the setup and just do a hard install anything?
Am i going to need to install windows 7 on this **** thing?
It is not supported but I have 2012 on an old laptop running W8, it seems to run really well. Search for directx issues on the internet and in the autodesk knowledge base.
Windows 8 uses the new directx 11.1. I'm not sure if AutoCAD 2012 supports this version. You could try to install the "DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer" (Microsoft Download Center). Also make sure that your graphic card supports direcxt 11.x and that you installed the latest drivers.
At your own risks ...
Windows 8 is NOT SUPPORTED by Autodesk :
Only 2014 will support Windows 8 ...
You should also check this in the KB
which I believe is more recent where they say...
