Image is printing really dark on a large plotter...

brought in a google image, adjust the brightness and contrast to make it lighter.

Theres quite a bit of linework floated above it and because of the dark image (which is also printing in color), the print preview shows it lighter, but it prints dark.

Any suggestions?  Any other changes we can make to it to have the image come out lighter on the plotter (printing 18x24)

Hi,

did you ever compare the colors of your display to that of the plotter-output? What happens if you open the image with paint or any other software that can open and print images ... also to dark?

You can look into your plotter-driver (or go by AutoCAD plot dialog to plotter-properties and then to custom properties) if there is any color-management active, if the plotter has one, play with it (at least try on and off, and if the printer has the option to select RGB versus CMYK ==> try both).

For your next message let us know

  • what type of printer you have
  • what happens if you print to DWF or PDF and send this to the same printer
  • what printer you have

Good luck, - alfred -

skip the brighhtness and contrast controls, and look at the Fade option.  Increase the Fade to get a lighter print.  typically i find the 40 % is the minimum fade amount to clearly see lineework on top of the image.
