Hi everybody, I drew a solid model of a structure in Autocad 2010. By using that model, I want to make a FEM analysis in Sap2000. The problem is that Sap2000 takes only polygon meshes (not solids) in 3d. The question is that how can i make a group of polygon meshes of the solid model that represents the structure.
(Since i am not an expert of Autocad, i will be glad if the solution is explained in a simple language.)
Unfortunately, when i use that command, it is said, on the command screen, "object can not be converted". Actually, what i want is to split a 3d solid model into 3d polygon meshes which are components of the 3d solid model.
By the way, I want to note that 3d polygon meshes still have volume!

If that is the answer from the system, then your object is no 3D-SOLID. Can you upload a drawing with at least one of your obejcts that can't be converted?

Sorry, not in AutoCAD, a mesh is like a surface.

I attached two files. The file named "3d_polygon_mesh.dwg" includes a model composed of 3d polygon meshes which i want to make from a 3d solid object.
The other file named "my_model.dwg" includes my structure(3d solid).
By using the model in the 2nd file, how can i form 3d polygon meshes that represent my structure?
Your 3DSOLID can be converted to a surface using the command _CONVTOSURFACE (that creates a surface), then with command _MESHOPTIONS you can convert it to a mesh (see attached DWG)
But without manual construction or development of a tool (imho) you can not create laminates like you showed in your drawing and you can't create box-like structures like you showed.
I'm no user of FEM-products and so my knowledge is close to zero, but I'm wondering that there is software doing FEM but not doing it's own meshing (as the meshing always has to be optimized by the product because of calculation-times)? Just wondering ...

Actually, Fem softwares are doing their own meshes. The reason why i am doing that in Autocad is that the drawing phase of the model in Autocad is easier compared to them.
