How to automatically print the layers of a drawing in separate sheets in one go?
I wanted to print the layers of a particular drawing each in separate sheet but wondering if there might be an automated way to do so. For example, if I a particular drawing comprise 15 layers then how to print each one of these layers in a separate sheet.
Sure, there might be more than one way to achieve this (like controlling the “plot” feature on the “layer properties manager” but what I’m looking for is an automated way to print all the 15 layers separately in one go.
Thank you for the help,
That would take some custom programming, and frankly I can't see it being at all useful to many people,
Basically a routine that steps through the layer table, tuns sets 1 current and everything else off, plots, and recurses back to the page setup. lots of ways for that to go screwy...
Sure, i agree with you. this is rarely needed by user. but for specific application, i wanted to check if such feature exists.
One go, no. Two, yes. Highlight all of the layers and Ctrl-C copy them. Open up a spreadsheet and Ctrl-V paste them. Print. Done.
... and I was so sure I'd beat Dean to this one too...
I was put off a bit by the screenshots at first, but I've since come to realize that it's a great tool for those who don't have english as a first language. In the end it probably saves everyone time.
Thank you guys for the contribution.
I do believe that screenshots can convey what words can’t…even when I write in my first language, I do the same! My original background is in civil engineering and they taught us that our language is the drawings but not the words! The words are the tools of poet!
Sure, I meant to print the content of the layers but not their properties!
I like a phrase of a friend in a forum: “I need to work but not to workaround”…
If this feature is not built in AutoCAD, then it is much better to print the drawing as pdf file and start printing the layers their one by one!
Even in the Acrobat, there is no option to print based on the layers contained in the pdf file! Thus, I needed to turn on/off to print the layers one by one
