# Helix for spiral coils

hi all,

I am trying to draw a flat spiral coil in 2D using the helix function but as soon as i use the 'flatten' command the coil becomes wiggly. is there a way to avoid this or do I have to use a different method to get a smooth spiral coil?

Perhaps I can increase the number of vertices so it looks smoother?

Yes i did. Just a slight update to the problem, i need actually to REDUCE the number of vertices as the laser machine im feeding into has a maximum number it can take. How do i do this?

So let me get this straight.
You did use height of 0 to get a spiral (not a helix).

You are using Flattten to convert the spline curve to arcs for g-code?

If this is what you are doing I have the solution around on how to control the number of arcs, but before trying to dig deep I want to make sure of the problem description.

Or use the old "pre-HELIX" method - the SPIRAL command from the 3DSPIRAL AutoLISP utility. See:

Yes I used the helix command, specified inner and outer radius, used 0 as the height, and flatten to convert into a polyline.
