I have a client that is running AutoCAD 2012 on a new Windows 7 64-bit laptop but gets fatal errors when accessing certain menus (Xref Manager, Layer Properties Manager, Options, possibly others). The messages they have seen so far are:
FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0000 Exception at 70e6ddaeh
FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0040 Exception at 3fc34be4h
Actions we have tried to stop the fatal errors:
Interestingly, the first time AutoCAD is run after the full uninstall and reinstall, it performs fine. No fatal errors accessing the menus. After closing AutoCAD and starting it again, the fatal errors return and persist for all runs after that.
I would say it is time to format the hard drive and reinstall everything but this computer was just formatted.
Thanks,

Hi,
first: that's like a perfect sample of an thread opening and problem description, really really great!
(I will use that as link for some thread openers with just "it does not work") 😉
>> gets fatal errors when accessing certain menus (Xref Manager, Layer Properties Manager, Options, possibly others)
That are all dialogs depending on Framework. So I would first look if Framework 4.5 is installed and if it is (and no application uses it) I would uninstall it. Next step is to go through all versions of Framework that are installed on that workstation (in the control panel ==> software) and run a repair on them. Last step: let Windows-update do all updates for Framework except any new installation of Frameworks newer than 4.0 (4.0 is ok, but not newer).
Good luck, - alfred -
Hello
I suspect too a Framework Dotnet problem !?
But you can install (if not already installed) the SP 2 on your ACAD 2012 ...

It can't be worse ...

I am getting a fatal error with this tag: 53dfb619h. It happens when I open a drawing with a surface in it. I have a few corridors modeled. I below the corridor is crashing it during open. How do I open without the corridors crashing my software? the file is only 4 MB.
Hi,
welcome @forums.autodesk.com !
Am I right that you are speaking about Civil3D? Then you should now (for your next thread) that there is a seperate forum for Civil3D >>>here<<<.
>> How do I open without the corridors crashing my software?
First copy your BAK-file to a safe folder, you might rename it to DWG and can try to open the previous saved state of your drawing.
Then start Civil3D, start command _RECOVER and select your defect drawing, this will open the drawing and do some drawing-database tests (and repairments if necessary and possible).
Good luck, - alfred -
Update:
We implemented Alfred's suggestions about repairing .NET Framework. After several days of AutoCAD use, I'm happy to report the issue seems to be fixed. Thanks, Alfred!
