Color of Paper space outside the page size

The color of the paper space outside of the page layout is a gray-white very bright that would  not allow the white lines and white letters to be seen.  I have looked at the Options dialog to see if that color can be changed, but I could not find the name of that area outside the per layout ( I have my paper layout to black, which is fine, but I do not know how to change the areas outside the paper).  This bright color came with AutoCAD 2012.

Can that color be changed, and if so, where?

Thanks in advance.

Options --> Display --> Layout elements (uncheck "Display paper background")

If by some odd chance my nattering was useful -- that's great, glad to help. But if it actually solved your issue, then please mark my solution as accepted :smileyhappy:

And turning the Display paper background off turns it to black, which should solve the problem of not being able to see white lines and lettering in that area.

Yeah, apparently there used to be an Interface element option called "Uniform background" in the Options - Display - Colors - Sheet/layout dialog that would allow this to be changed.  But at least as of AutoCAD 2011 that element choice is no longer there.  It may have been available as late as the 2009 version... I'm not set up to test it to be sure.

Anyone using a fairly current version may be stuck with either blue/gray or black.

Dave.

I agree with the OP...this is very annoying, either glaring white or black...this is a glaring error in my opinion...you should be able to make the paperspace background grey or whatever color you want, you always could before...thanks for taking away our choice and once again assuming you know what is best for us...

Dear Autodesk,

Can you please tell us why we can no longer choose a paper background color that makes sense? Neither "glaring white" nor black are working for us. How about something in between, like, oh I don't know, maybe... gray. Or better yet, why not just let us pick the color that works best for us?

Thank you,

Dave
